How it Works
Our animation shows how two continents collided and formed the Himalayan Mountain range. 60 million years ago India collided into the Asian plate. This movement is what eventually causes the Himalayan range, as the two plates push against each other and the earth’s crust is squeezed upwards.
40 million years ago heavy sediments on the ocean floor sink under the Asian plate, slowly closing up the Tethys Sea. 20 million years ago the Tethys Sea is completely gone. The ocean floor was pushed up to form the Himalayas.Tibet begins to rise. Today India is still pushing
against Asia. Mt. Everest stands 29,028 Ft. and
is still growing.
