Project-Based Learning with Technology > Community of learners By Diane McGrath,
and The Project Approach -- Home. It
engages students in problem-solving activities that allow them to construct
their own knowledge and develop authentic products while dealing with real-world
issues. (Inductive Thinking)
Lillian Katz defines the goals of
project work as different than systematic skills based instruction. While much of the content
covered in the classroom will be taught using a systematic approach, project
work "provides children with the opportunity to apply skills; (2) addresses
children’s proficiencies; (3) stresses intrinsic motivation; and (4) encourages
children to determine what to work on and accepts them as experts about their
needs" (1994).
Technology supports Project-based
Learning by providing tools for project exploration and discovery. By bringing
Project-based Learning concepts and technology together, educators can guide
students to create real world solutions using powerful open-ended technologies.
Building creativity and problem solving, along with other critical skills
learned through the use of technology tools in a project-based setting, provide
powerful reasons to incorporate project-based Learning in the classroom today.

Project guidelines and processes are available through training provided
by the Geo-Literacy Project. We will be launching online courses
available starting in June to learn how to put together your own
community project. For more on a general Master plan see
Design. All projects are project based
and uniquely integrated with the World Cultures Model.
