Back in the classroom student groups went to work on using the data and collecting more information. The trees and plants groups took their leaf samples and digital photographs and identified the trees and plants using my collection of books. We also had to use web sites to help verify our identifications.  The birds and animal life group were busy identifying the birds and insects that we found. A parent, with expertise in bugs, helped us identify two of the insects.

Students entered their headstone survey form data pages into our online survey that took all of the data and showed it in graphs, tables and charts. Students then used the charts to interpret the data and explain what the headstone data tells us about our community- helping to answer our essential question.  You can see a chart next to this student e-mailing for additional information or confirmation.  If they still had questions they e-mailed experts asking for help.
