European Americans-

Landis and Sarah Alford's daughter was the first European-American burial in the cemetery. Alford's daughter was 3 years old. She died on December 1856. She was also the first person buried in Rockville cemetery. She was born in 1853.  Her parents donated the property for the church and cemetery.

Rockville cemetery is famous because it is the first cemetery built in a park. Her vault is worn out and very old obviously. I think she was never forgotten. By 1852 they were having religious summer camp meetings in tents. They were raising $5,000 to build a permanent structure, the Rockville Chapel. Regular services were held until 1895. The church could not be used because of its condition. It was restored by 1940. That is what happened to the Rockville Chapel.

She was buried in a vault. The vault is more than a century old. Obviously, she died very young. If she had a headstone it would have had a lamb for the carving. picture of vault
