At the cemetery we not only had to log all of the information on each headstone, students photographed each stone and recorded information about similarities and differences between nearby headstones.  It took three visits to the cemetery to just get just part of the headstones in our area recorded.

Back in the classroom students compared information and we reorganized the headstone survey forms as the first edition ones were a tad confusing. With the new forms in hand we headed back to the cemetery two more times- until each student had recorded at least five headstones each.

Some students filmed mini-documentaries about the types of headstones, using GPS units and cultural groups buried in the cemetery. Students also made QuickTime VR movies using the “360-One” lens attached to a Nikon 4500 digital camera. Students used a Sony Mavica, Nikon 4500, Intel “cam” cameras, and an Olympus 5060 to photograph headstones, trees and other items in the cemetery.  Other groups were using tree and plant identification books to help identify trees, plants and flowers in the cemetery.
