To learn how to log a headstone we used plastic headstones and our log sheets. We measured, logged the information on the headstones, and photographed each one. Then we looked at our pictures on the computer and kept photographing the headstones until we liked the way the pictures looked.

We also learned that in many cemeteries people break headstones.  Sometimes they get old and fall over.  This picture shows a headstone with a broken urn at the top.  It had been repaired by the cemetery people.

Our job was to explore a cemetery near the school and fill out sheets with measurements, date, geographic, architecture, flora and fauna information.  We found that there were many different kinds of headstones.

We also learned that there are many kinds of cemeteries.  Some are old and marked because they had famous pioneers who settled the land.  Some are just for soldiers.  On some headstone we found the history of the person who was buried.  Some of us went back to find out more about some of the people buried in the cemetery.  You will see some of the history next to the headstones in the cultural section.  At the cemetery we wrote notes and then at school we went to the computer and re-wrote more complete stories.
