Inside First Thoughts
Headstones ] Culture ] Maps ] Plants ] Era, Category and Design ] Design and Location ] [ Topography, Motif, Map, Direction ] Extra Thoughts ]

Below is another QTVR at a different angle so you can see the hill and a more distant view of the church.

If you don't have the QT plug in, visit www.apple.com/quicktime/downloadTOPOGRAPHY

Most of the headstones were on the lower hill rather than the flat land.  The most were on the lower hill, and then flat land was next. The cemetery is mostly on the lower hill as you can see in the QTVR to the left.

MOTIF

On the headstones there were a lot with no motifs, after that there were a lot with flowers. We saw almost no urns.

PLOT-CEMETERY MAP DESIGN

The graph shows that most of the cemetery is like a grid, but the blocks differ in shape. After that there is a grid design. The least common was paths that followed the shape of the land.

GRAVE DIRECTION IS FACING

By the graph most headstones are facing east.  We also saw that at the cemetery. Some headstones were facing up and we were not sure how to log that on our surveys.  We learned that in pioneer times most headstones were put in facing east so they could face the sunrise.
