| Habitat:
The common king snake may be found in habitats like grasslands,
marshes, forsest, woodlands, and most desert areas,. any where from
sea level to 7000 ft. |
| Diet:
Kingsnakes are mainly cannibalistic. They will dine very
frequently on non-venomous and venemous snakes. They will also eat
frogs, eggs, birds, lizards, and other rodents. |

Physical Appearance:
· Common kingsnakes have a variety of different colors and
patterns. Most kingsnakes usually have patterns of alternating black
and white bands; these colors can vary from brown, white, cream,
or a pale yellow. Mountain kingsnakes can have bands of red. The
Suisun Marsh kingsnake is as pictured. |
| Behavior:
These snakes are constrictors but sometimes shake their tails as
a bluff. They hide under anything dark, wet, and cold, such as under
logs and stones. If the snake has been caught they can be a bit
wild but after awhile in captivity they tend to calm down. Some
of the kingsnake species go up trees and hunt for birds or eggs. |
Reproduction:
· Mating begins between March and June, then the female will
lay about 4-20 eggs between May and August. The incubation period
will vary from about 47 to 81 days. The new hatchlings will be from
8 to 13 inches long. They will become mature adults in 3 to 4 years.
