Grinding Rocks

What are grinding rocks or milling depressions?

This is a mortar and pestle. We took the picture at Rush Ranch. It was used to grind acorns and other stuff.

It was used to grind acorns into powder. This is a milling depression. The women would put acorns in the holes. They used a pestle to grind the acorns. They also had to use water to leach out the tannin, which was poisonous.

See a pestle, or the rock you hold in your hand, as a VR Object!

This is another picture of the milling depression. View a QTVR movie of the area at the grinding rocks. Hold your mouse button down over the picture to make the picture turn!
